We are excited to announce that the District Council of Yankalilla has partnered with DPTI to launch Carpool SA Yankalilla on Thursday 30 June 2016. The Yankalilla council is the first regional council to partner with us in delivering a carpooling program to its community.
The District Council of Yankalilla Chief Executive Officer, Nigel Morris said “It gives people across the Fleurieu region the chance to save money on petrol and parking if commuting to Adelaide or surrounding regions for work or events, and also provides an opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint". Council will be looking to promote the program to local sporting and community clubs across the Council region so that the community members who use the program can link up with other to share a ride to sporting games and community events.

UniSA at Mawson Lakes have been one of our most successful worksites, with a number of carpool members, both staff and students, taking advantage of the priority parking spaces that are reserved for them.
Such has been the success there that the university has now installed more parking spaces for participating members to use. Click here for a map of the Mawson Lakes campus – the new car park spaces aren’t reflected on the map yet, but if you head to University Boulevard to where it is marked ‘other’ on the map, you’ll find two new car parks reserved for you! To use the priority parks, you and your carpool partner just need to leave your membership cards upside down on the dashboard or have your Adelaide Carpool sticker showing on your car window.
Linda and Audra both work at Optus Mawson Lakes and joined Adelaide Carpool last year. They’ve started sharing the drive to and from work and found that it’s brought lots of benefits.
“It’s nice to have company on the way to and from work” Linda said, adding that “the priority parks mean that we’re able to park right outside the front door!
“It’s so easy – Audra drives past my house when she’s on her way to work anyhow, it just made sense to carpool. And through using only one car, we’re having a lesser effect on the environment.
“Plus, we save on petrol costs and it’s really handy too when one of us has our car in for a service or repairs – it doesn’t matter now, because we know that we’ll get a ride with our carpool mate.”
They found the process easy – they went to www.adelaidecarpool.com.au, completed the Join process and the details of their drive to and from work. Because they work similar hours and live a few streets from each other, the Adelaide Carpool site presented them as potential matches. They sent each other a Link Up request, communicated with each other through the site and made the decision to start carpooling!
You can benefit too – join at www.adelaidecarpool.com.au and search for a carpool match. And if you find one, get the ball rolling by sending them a Link Up request!
We received some feedback from a couple of carpoolers that currently share their commute as a result of joining Adelaide Carpool!
They told us that they really enjoyed their carpooling experience. In fact, one of them told us that they “loved it”, the other told us that “it was wonderful” and that their experience was enhanced by their carpooling partner being “cheerful, reliable and friendly”. They told us that the benefits they enjoyed were financial, social (“it was great to meet someone new and she was lovely”) and that they enjoyed “no parking worries”.
Got your own story? Please e-mail us at email@example.com and tell us!
Optus and UniSA have been members of Adelaide Carpool since inception, and have premises beyond the CBD. Both have sites at Mawson Lakes, and UniSA also has a site at Magill. All of these sites are now included in the Adelaide Carpool program and both workplaces have taken steps to make carpooling to work more attractive. Their car parks now all have designated priority car parks for Adelaide Carpool members, as you can see from the photos.
If your workplace wants to reserve some parking spaces in your car park for the use of Adelaide Carpool members, e-mail us to arrange loan and delivery of our stencil so that you can brand the parking space with the Adelaide Carpool logo.
If you haven’t logged in to the webpage for a little while, we’d encourage you to have another look – you may find that you now have a lot more potential matches being presented to you! There are a couple of recent enhancements in particular that might be of interest:
